After struggling all throughout the 2017 season Rory McIlroy has set some lofty goals for himself moving into the start of a new season.
McIlroy hasn’t won since 2016 and didn’t even have a top three finish over the past year but he says that he is ready to become the best European golfer ever.
McIlroy said:
I’m trying to become the best European golfer ever. I’m trying to surpass Nick Faldo in that and then if I had a career goal it would probably be to be the best international golfer ever.
McIlroy’s last win at a major was back in 2014 when he won the PGA Championship. He now has four majors under his belt and is in search of a Masters win to complete his career grand slam.

McIlroy believes he is capable of winning several more majors.
He said:
Gary Player has nine majors and I’d like to think I’m going to give myself a chance to get close to that tally.
McIlroy struggled through a series of injuries all year and said he was considering shutting things down for a while but never ended up doing so.
Despite his struggles, McIlroy still leads the PGA in driving distance (317.2) so its not as if the wheels have fallen completely off his game.
This is a key year for McIlroy to reestablish himself and he can’t afford another year without a top three finish.
