Patrick Reed wins the Northern Trust
It’s very rare that Patrick Reed flies under the radar at any time during his PGA career. However, Reed’s win at the Northern Trust was a little unassuming compared to his last win at The Masters back in 2018.
Reed finished his final round at Liberty National with a 2-under par 69 to finish at 16-under for the weekend. He was able to hold off Abraham Ancer who finished at 15-under as well as a host of other big names not far behind including Jon Rahm, Adam Scott and Harold Varner III.
Controversy has often followed Reed around when he is hovering around the top of the leader board including his win at The Masters in 2018 as well as at last years Ryder Cup when he was causing a media storm following comments to the New York Times about his American teammates.
However, you barely heard a peep about Reed all weekend until mid-way through the final round when he looked in control to earn his seventh career win on the PGA Tour.
There was plenty of controversy this weekend at the Northern Trust with the social media backlash following Bryson DeChambeau’s slow play which was criticized by fellow PGA players, media and fans across the world. Tiger Woods was also making headlines at the Northern Trust after withdrawing due to injury following a poor performance in round one.
Was standing on the putting green with Koepka's caddie earlier when an irritated Bryson DeChambeau walked up & told him to tell his boss to make any comment about slow play "to my face". Brooks arrived soon after, got the message & ambled over for a chat with the scientist.

Meanwhile, Reed was quietly going about his business with rounds of 66-66-67-69 to earn his first victory in over a year and a half.
With the win, Reed will earn a cheque for $1,665,000 USD and he vaults from No. 48 all the way up to No. 2 in the FedEx Cup playoff standings.
However, Brooks Keopka will remain in the No.1 spot in the FedEx Cup heading into next week at the BMW Championship at Medinah in Illinois.
