Dustin Johnson struggling to close out wins

Does Dustin Johnson need more major titles to solidify his legacy?

Dustin Johnson recently picked up his 20th career title after winning the WGC Mexico which earned him a lifetime exemption on the PGA Tour.

However, there is a sense that Johnson should have won more by now and that the 34 year-old should have more than just one major title to his resume aside from the 2016 US Open championship.

Johnson has left a handful of wins on the table including this past week at the RBC Heritage where he held the lead after 54 holes but ended up shooting a final round 77 which left him tied for 28th at the end of the tournament.

The final round 77 in his home state of South Carolina brought back memories of the 2010 US Open when Johnson blew up after holding the lead and finished his final round with an 82 which saw him fall to eighth place.

When Johnson is at his best he is hands down one of the top players on the planet but there is always a sense that perhaps he could do more which was evident this past week at Hilton Head.

Johnson at his best is a thing a beauty to watch.

We’ve seen him driving par four’s within inches of the hole and blowing away the field with some of the best players in the world which often leads us to wonder; “Why can’t he do that more often?

His performance in the final round at the RBC Heritage was just another one of those days where we were left asking more questions.

Despite his inability to close out the RBC Heritage, Johnson remains the No.1 player in the official world golf rankings.
