Arm anchored putting at The Masters

The arm anchored putter is here to stay so get use to it.

For those golf fans who tune in to the PGA Tour season when the Masters rolls around they’re going to notice several players with a putting grip that might look new or innovative. Some may have not have seen it before but around Augusta we’ve seen it all over the years.

In 2005, Chris DiMarco almost beat Tiger with the claw.  Mark O’Meara won his Masters with the standard overlap and then went to the saw.

In 1993, Bernard Langer won his second green jacket with a reverse left-hand low arm bar. Later in his career he would switch to the anchored broom handle which is the same broom style Adam Scott would use to earn his Masters title 2013.

Since the USGA and R&A’s anchoring ban took effect back in 2016 players have been searching for the next grip to get them over the hump. Look no further, the arm anchored putter has arrived at The Masters.

Some of the notable players to use the arm anchored putting technique include 2017 Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel and US Open and 2018 Players Champion Webb Simpson as well as two-time winner this season on the PGA Tour Matt Kuchar.

Bryson Dechambeau has won five times in less than 12 months around the world and he is another as well as Bubba Watson the two-time Masters champion who is also a disciple of the arm anchored putter

Adam Scott has used it and we may see it this week. Canadian David Hearn has used it and I’ll suspect that we’ll have thousands Canadian golf fans running outside after The Masters to give it a go themselves.

You can bet the house that in 2020 there well be even more players in the Masters field using it and I’m fairly certain every major golf manufacturer will have an arm anchored putter in their line-up next spring.
